Community Solutions To Tackle Ice

04 May 2017

Community groups have been invited to apply for funding to tackle ice abuse, with applications now open for the next round of the Andrews Labor Government’s Community Ice Action Grants.

Minister for Mental Health Martin Foley today joined Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo to announce the opening of the next round which will give local communities up to $10,000 to implement local solutions to deal with ice.

The grants have supported over 20 community groups in the past to help deliver local initiatives such as workshops, forums, local campaigns, training and engagement with young people.

Last year the Australian Football League Central Victoria division received a $10,000 grant to provide education to local football and netball clubs on the dangers of illicit drugs – particularly ice. Its Sporting Clubs Ice Education Program has been developed in conjuction with Victoria Police and has made a positive impact to the local community.

The Labor Government has provided a record $100 million investment towards the Ice Action Plan, providing more Victorians with support to tackle ice addiction.

In addition, this week’s Victorian Budget 2017/18 invested $81.1 million towards stage three of the Ice Action Plan which provides a focus on early intervents and treatment for Victorians struggling with dangerous drug use.
