Closing Date Extended For Youth Engagement Grants

07 October 2016

The closing date for applications to the Rural and Regional Local Government Youth Engagement Program has been extended by two weeks to ensure that flood affected communities can still take part.

Rural and regional Victorian councils now have until 21 October to apply for grants of up to $30,000 for initiatives that will increase the engagement of young people in local government and community decision making.

The program is targeting young people facing barriers to active participation in their community, including young people from multicultural backgrounds, young people in areas of low-socio economic backgrounds and LGBTI young people.

It aims to give young people the chance to be heard so that they can help shape the issues that matter to them and is supporting the Government’s new youth policy Building Stronger Youth Engagement in Victoria.

The Andrews Labor Government has already allocated $212,000 for seven councils to give young people a say.
