Charlton Sets The Pace Raising Money For Cancer Research

23 February 2018

Charlton is gearing up to host its biggest ever Pacing Cup this weekend, thanks to a joint funding package supported by the Andrews Labor Government.

The Labor Government is providing more than $11,000 towards the Charlton Pacing Cup this Sunday, 25 February, which will help raise funds for cancer research.

Charlton Harness Racing Club is contributing more than $7,000 to the event, while Harness Racing Victoria is providing $6500. Local businesses are also contributing more than $2,000 in goods and services to support the event.

Racegoers will have the chance to support a good cause at the ‘Bubbles in the Bush’ charity event which will raise funds for ovarian cancer research. The home-grown theme will feature a range of local produce stalls, as well as champagne and wine tasting.

The family-friendly race day will also have pony trots and a jumping castle to keep children entertained. Horses from the HERO program – Harness Education and Re-homing Opportunities – will be on course for patrons to interact with, showcasing the industry’s commitment to animal welfare initiatives.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has contributed more than $487,000 to support four infrastructure projects and one harness racing event at Charlton Park.

The racing industry in the Mallee region generates more than $58 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain more than 570 full-time equivalent jobs.
