Changing Lives, One Job At A Time

08 May 2017

More than 1,000 Victorians have been placed into sustainable jobs in the first eight months of the Andrews Labor Government’s flagship Jobs Victoria Employment Network (JVEN).

Visiting young workers at the Marriott Hotel today, Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan praised JVEN for getting more people into work by breaking down barriers to employment, and giving them the skills and training they need.

Social Ventures Australia (SVA) – a Jobs Victoria provider – is helping homeless, culturally-diverse and Aboriginal jobseekers get the skills they need to work in some of Melbourne’s high end hotels.

The SVA team has partnered with Jesuit Social Services to help jobseekers take up employment opportunities at CBD hotels including the Marriott and the Hilton.

Several young Victorians at the Marriott have now completed training to work in a variety of roles in the hospitality industry – including front of house, kitchen and housekeeping.

All Victorians deserve to share in the benefits of the state’s fast growing economy.

Jobs Victoria is providing support across the state to a range of jobseekers who face barriers to work including the long-term unemployed, retrenched automotive workers, at-risk young people and people with a disability.

The program connects jobseekers with the opportunities they need to not only find a job, but hold onto it.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan

“There’s a profound dignity that comes with having a job, and being able to contribute to the community.”

“Today’s announcement shows that our employment providers are enjoying real success in placing Victorians into meaningful work.”
