Centre Upgrade Means More Kinder Places In Wodonga

07 September 2016

The Baranduda Community Centre has boosted the number of places on offer in their four-year-old kindergarten program thanks to a much needed upgrade funded by the Victorian Government.

The redevelopment includes upgrades to the four-year-old kindergarten room as well as the room used for occasional childcare and playgroups – increasing the licensed capacity of the centre by 17 places.

With the Centre offering occasional care, three-year-old kindergarten programs, playgroups, immunisation sessions, parenting courses and community activities, it brings vital family services, childcare and kindergarten options under the same roof, offering flexibility and convenience to the community.

The Victorian Government contributed $350,000 towards the centre’s upgrade, and the Wodonga City Council contributed $156,666 to the project, as well as an additional $40,000 to upgrade the outdoor areas.

As part of the ongoing work to make Victoria the Education State, the Labor Government is delivering up to $83.7 million to help kinders transition to improved staff-to-child ratios.

The improved ratios are allowing staff to give more individual care and attention, and to develop even more meaningful relationships with kids, leading to better social and learning outcomes.

The Andrews Labor Government is also investing $60 million in the early childhood sector through the building and upgrading of kindergartens and children’s centres.

Infrastructure projects such as these ensure local children’s services have the space and flexibility they need to deliver 15 hours of kindergarten alongside a range of other vital early years programs.
