Celebrating Guru Nanak With Victoria’s Sikh Community

05 August 2019

The Andrews Labor Government is standing with Victoria’s Sikh community and supporting celebrations for the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak.

Guru Nanak is the first Guru and founder of Sikhism, with Sikh communities around the world coming together to celebrate this sacred anniversary.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Richard Wynne today announced $200,000 to support Victoria-based events to be held in 2019. They may range from small community gatherings to large state-wide festivities.

Victoria is home to Australia’s largest Sikh community, with more than 52,000 Sikh Victorians recorded in the 2016 Census.

They’ve contributed immensely to Victoria’s multiculturalism.

The Sikh Celebrations and Events Fund will have two application streams, with organisations and community groups encouraged to apply.

Applications will close 25 August. For more information or to apply, visit Link .
