Caulfield Saddles Up For Summer Of Racing

10 February 2018

Families will enjoy a spectacular day of summer racing at Caulfield this weekend as part of a joint funding package of more than $312,000 supported by the Andrews Labor Government.

The Labor Government is contributing almost $102,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program to support three race days across January and February. The club is providing more than $210,000.

The Family Day race meeting today, Saturday 10 February, will feature a range of free and affordable family activities, including special visits from superheros, carnival rides and festive food.

Racegoers will also be treated to a pool party where they can relax and cool down between races and music provided by DJs.

The race meeting forms part of the Melbourne Racing Club’s Summer of Racing series featuring thee major events at Caulfield Racecourse.

The first meeting, held during the Australia Day long weekend, was a resounding success with more than 3600 people flocking to the track to enjoy some of the best thoroughbred racing on offer.

After today’s event, the series will conclude on Saturday 24 February with Blue Diamond Stakes Day, which is Victoria’s richest race meeting for two-year-old horses.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided almost $1 million to support three infrastructure projects and ten thoroughbred racing events and series at Caulfield Racecourse.

The racing industry in the metropolitan region generates more than $1.5 billion for the Victorian economy each year and helps sustain more than 13,950 full-time equivalent jobs locally.
