Castlemaine School Tops Premier’s Sustainability Award

20 October 2016

Winters Flat Primary School has been awarded the highest honour at the Premier’s Sustainability Awards Ceremony last night.

Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio presented the school with the award for their Students Leading Change Sustainability Program.

The Castlemaine-based school has harnessed the power of community and student-led action to reduce its carbon footprint and embed sustainable practices within their curriculum.

Last year, student leaders engaged with other schools in the Youth Leading the World Congress, and introduced new school-wide polices such as limiting excess food packaging.

Bendigo Sustainability Group was announced winner of the Premier’s Regional Recognition Award for bringing together a diverse range of people with a shared interest in sustainable living, solar power, sustainable food and gardening, community education, and energy efficiency policy development.

The Premier’s Sustainability Awards are now in their 14th year running and are Victoria’s most recognised annual sustainability awards program across business, government, health, education and community.
