Cape Bridgewater Foreshore Upgrades Come To Life

28 January 2022

The Andrews Labor Government is transforming Cape Bridgewater’s foreshore to help boost tourism in the region and create local jobs.

Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green today visited Cape Bridgewater to announce the completion of a 400-metre-long rock wall as part of the Cape Bridgewater Masterplan Infrastructure Upgrade.

This project includes improvements to public infrastructure, amenities, public arts, improve access, and connection points along the foreshore.

The Labor Government is investing $1.5 million towards the upgrades through the Building Works package. The rock wall project forms Stage 1 and will help to prevent coastal erosion.

Five jobs were created during construction of Stage 1, which also features a sandstone viewing platform for locals and tourists to enjoy the coastal scenery.

Stage 2 will include landscaping works, pathways and parking that will be built on top of the new rock wall. The second stage will further enhance Cape Bridgewater foreshore’s potential as a key sightseeing destination along the Great South Coast.

The $2.7 billion Building Works package is designed to provide immediate benefit to communities across Victoria through shovel-ready projects that will create jobs now and provide lasting benefits in response to economic challenges brought about by the pandemic, drought and bushfires.

The masterplan works build on other investments the Government is making in Portland as part of its commitment to ensure the region is an even better place to live, work, visit and invest, including $3 million through the Regional Infrastructure Fund for the Portland Foreshore Redevelopment.
