Burke Road level crossing - GONE!
If you've ever driven through it, you'll know that the level crossing on Burke Road in Glen Iris was one of Melbourne’s worst. The boom gates were down for up to 40 minutes between 7:00am-9:00am – a third of the morning peak – causing queues onto the Monash Freeway.
From this morning traffic is now flowing through Burke Road without this relic of the past holding it up.
This is the first of 50 level crossings we will remove, and we’re not wasting a day getting rid of each and every one of them.
