Minister for Education James Merlino today visited Sandringham College in Sandringham where the Andrews Labor Government is funding the refurbishment of school facilities and giving children the best chance in life.
The 2015-16 Victorian Budget provides the school with $2 million to be spent on rebuilding classrooms and other facilities at the College’s Sandringham and Highett campuses.
The College will also receive $80,124 in equity funding in 2016, up from zero in 2015.
This increase is part of the Labor Government’s Education State commitment to provide an extra $566 million to help schools and students most in need and break the cycle of disadvantage.
The Government’s first Budget invests almost $4 billion in Victoria’s education and skills system – representing the single biggest boost to education funding in Victoria’s history.
The Budget provides $325 million to renovate, refurbish or rebuild 67 schools. It will fund the first stage of an extensive asbestos removal program so that families can be assured their children are being educated in safe schools.
It also includes $180 million for programs that will help families cover the extra costs of education, like camps, excursions and uniforms, so no child misses out.
