Building The Education State At Mount Alexander College

02 March 2016

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Essendon Danny Pearson today visited Mount Alexander 7-12 College in Flemington to tour its renovation works, and meet staff and students to discuss current school priorities.

Mount Alexander 7-12 College received $250,000 in October 2015 through the School Improvement Fund for renovations, including construction of new outdoors learning facilities

Mr Merlino said the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to building the Education State was underpinned by a $747 million investment in education and school infrastructure.

Under an extensive and revitalised school building program, many Victorian schools, including Mount Alexander 7-12 College, are being renovated, refurbished and rebuilt to improve the physical standard of our schools and classrooms.

Mount Alexander 7-12 College has a long history, and can trace its origins to Flemington National School which opened 1858.

The College will also receive boosted equity funding of $498,784 this year, an increase of $163,439 compared to its 2015 equity funding.

This increase is part of the Labor Government’s Education State commitment to provide an extra $566 million to help schools and students most in need to break the cycle of disadvantage.

The Education State is about improving outcomes for every student, in every classroom, in every community.
