The Andrews Labor Government’s work to rebuild Castlemaine Secondary College has hit another key milestone with the official opening of the school’s brand new hi-tech engineers’ precinct.
Premier Daniel Andrews today joined local Member Maree Edwards and the school community to celebrate the precinct’s opening, which was made possible after the Labor Government provided an additional $2.5 million to fully fund the new precinct.
The new facility boasts state-of-the-art spaces for budding engineers, physicists and chemists and also has an automotive studies workshop.
In addition to the new engineering facility, the school is planning revamp of the performing arts precinct and administration block.
The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian student can get a great education and every community has access to a great school.
The Victorian Budget 2016/17 invested more than $151 million in upgrading and rebuilding 39 regional schools, including fixing every regional secondary school classified as being in the worst condition.
The Labor Government is also undertaking planning for six other regional school projects.
This school building boom across Victoria will create 4000 construction jobs and ensure every family has access to a great school no matter where they live.
This year, schools and students in regional Victoria have also shared in more than $68 million of extra equity funding. Equity funding increased on average by $437 per student across regional Victoria, in comparison to $209 in metropolitan Melbourne.
Castlemaine Secondary College received an extra $98,191 to support local students.
