More than 240 students in Geelong West will get the first-rate facilities they deserve, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Education James Merlino, Treasurer Tim Pallas and Member for Geelong Christine Couzens today visited Ashby Primary School to announce a $2.84 million funding boost for school upgrades.
This project will upgrade and modernise classrooms and facilities, ensuring local families can access a great local school equipped to deliver the best possible education.
The projects are part of a $685 million investment announced in the Victorian Budget 2017/18 to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state as well as creating local jobs.
$195 million will go towards upgrading and modernising 59 regional schools and 49 metropolitan schools. The projects include new classrooms, STEM facilities, gymnasiums and playgrounds.
In total the Victorian Budget 2017/18 has invested $21.1 million to upgrade fifteen schools across Geelong and the surrounding region. There are now 43 school projects being delivered across this community, thanks to a $137.85 million investment over the past three budgets to build and upgrade schools.
The funding brings the Labor Government’s total investment in our schools to more than $2.5 billion, including over 1,000 existing school projects and 56 new schools.
