Building Boost For Victorian Schools

11 August 2021

Communities across Victoria will soon benefit from a massive school infrastructure boost, with the Andrews Labor Government delivering new schools and upgrades across the Catholic and independent education sectors.

Minister for Education James Merlino today announced 34 projects across Victoria that will share in $70 million under Round 3 of the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund, which is delivering new schools, increasing capacity and providing modern facilities, as well as supporting the removal of asbestos and cladding.

Sacred Heart School in Oakleigh will receive $2 million to refurbish student amenities, the uniform shop and administration wing, which will be extended to make way for new offices and an entrance foyer.

In Melbourne’s north-west, $3.5 million will go towards a new Prep to Year 4 building for Darul Ulum College of Victoria in Mickleham, $3 million will fund a new learning centre at Heatherton Christian College in Wyndham Vale and $3 million will expand learning spaces at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Primary School in Sunshine.

In the growing south-eastern suburbs, a $5 million investment will go to developing the first stage of the new St Josephine Bakhita Catholic Primary School in Clyde North.

In regional Victoria, $4.9 million will support the first stage of a new school for Mansfield Autism Statewide Services.

More than one third of Victorian students attend Catholic or independent schools – and this $402 million fund is ensuring students across the state are benefitting from new schools and better, more modern school infrastructure.

In the past seven years, the Labor Government has invested more than $10.9 billion in building new schools across the state and more than 1,700 school upgrades, creating 13,500 jobs in construction and through the supply chain.
