Building A New Children’s Hub In Melbourne’s West

23 January 2018

Altona families will have access to more kinder and childcare places, with work set to begin on the Altona Early Years Hub.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos today turned the first sod of the new $6.9 million integrated children’s centre at Altona P-9 College.

The hub will include long day care, three and four-year-old kindergarten, playgroups and Maternal and Child Health, as well as parenting, intervention and family support services all under one roof.

It has been designed with multipurpose and flexible spaces to support a range of integrated early years services for local families.

The Andrews Labor Government provided $1.6 million for the project through the Children’s Facilities and Capital Grants program.

It will offer 76 long day care and 99 kindergarten places and a range of early learning programs to help young children transition to primary school.

The Labor Government is delivering a record $70 million to build, expand and upgrade kinders across Victoria to ensure local families can continue to access great local kindergartens.

Altona families will also benefit from the Government’s $202 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, announced in the Victorian Budget 2017/18.

This ground-breaking reform plan recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.

It will mean local parents can access improved parenting support and Maternal and Child Health services, as well as higher quality and more inclusive kindergartens.
