Building A New Children’s Hub For Bayswater Families

31 January 2018

More families living in Bayswater will have access to kinder and childcare places and Maternal and Child Health Services, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Jenny Mikakos today visited Blue Hills Kindergarten to turn the sod on a new $8.7 million children’s centre.

The project includes a complete redevelopment of the existing kindergarten from a one-room facility to a brand new and fully integrated early years’ hub.

The Labor Government provided Knox Council $1.6 million for the project through the 2017-18 Children’s Facilities and Capital Grants program.

The Bayswater Integrated Children’s Centre will provide 66 four-year-old kindergarten places, 105 long day care places, a joint Maternal and Child Health Service and allied health consulting suite, playgroup space and a new natural outdoor play area.

The Labor Government is delivering a record $74 million to build, expand and upgrade kinders across Victoria to ensure local families can continue to access great kindergartens where they live.

After four long years of neglect by the previous Liberal Government, we are getting on with delivering the services that Victorians need.

Bayswater families will also benefit from the Government’s $202 million Education State Early Childhood Reform Plan, announced in the 2017-18 Victorian Budget.

This reform plan recognises the importance of providing families with strong support in early childhood so kids are ready for kinder, ready for school and ready for life.

It will mean local parents can access improved parenting support and Maternal and Child Health services, as well as higher quality and more inclusive kindergartens.
