Boost To Give Local Geelong Clubs The Resources They Need

18 April 2018

Grassroots sports clubs across Geelong will get the equipment, skills and expertise they need to grow and be more competitive.

Minister for Sport John Eren joined Member for Geelong Christine Couzens at the Newcomb Power Football Netball Club today – one of 25 local clubs who will share in $38,483 from the Andrews Labor Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

The program is helping more people in Geelong – of all ages and abilities – get active and involved in grassroots sport.

There are grants for new modern uniforms and equipment, training programs for coaches, officials and volunteers, and helping clubs improve their operations and administration.

The Labor Government is investing in community sport across Geelong including:

  • $5,000 to South West Golf Association to develop a strategy to grow golf and boost regional participation
  • $4,500 to Drysdale Soccer Club to develop a strategy to help manage future growth
  • $1,862 to Newcomb Power Football Netball Club to provide more training for coaches and umpires
  • $1,000 to Barwon Heads 13th Beach Surf Lifesaving Club for new uniforms
  • $1,000 to Geelong Athletics to purchase new equipment

Grassroots clubs in Geelong and across Victoria can apply for grants of up to $1,000 to buy new team uniforms or equipment, while grants of up to $2,000 are available to expand the skills of coaches and officials.

Clubs can also receive up to $5,000 for initiatives that strengthen their operations and grow their membership.

The program builds on the biggest investment in women’s and community sport in Victoria’s history – upgrading local grounds, change rooms and pavilions to level the playing field and get more locals active.

The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will invest $241.6 million in women’s and community sport, including more than $100 million to improve facilities and access for women.
