The Andrews Labor Government is backing a Bentleigh defence manufacturer so they can enter global supply chains, secure high value defence contracts and create Victorian jobs.
Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll visited CableX to announce funding to position them for major defence opportunities like SEA 5000 and to export to defence contractors in Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
CableX will receive support to partner with industry experts under the Boost Your Business Defence, Aerospace and Security stream and the Victorian Defence Industry Supply Chain Program to help build on its track record of supplying to some of the world’s biggest defence companies.
With nearly 200 employees at its Bentleigh site, CableX manufactures custom cables and harness assemblies for the defence, transport and aerospace industries supplying companies including Airbus and Boeing.
The company also supplies parts for the F35 Joint Strike Fighter and Hawkei land vehicle program, and exports electrical harnesses to Lithuania and Germany.
The grants will support important compliance and accreditation requirements to enable CableX to supply parts and equipment for emerging opportunities in the defence sector including new vehicles, ships and submarines.
CableX is one of nine companies receiving a Defence, Aerospace and Security Boost Your Business Voucher, the others are Bayne Group Pty Ltd, Clarinox Technologies Pty Ltd, Doen Pacific Pty Ltd, LRM Technologies Pty Ltd, RMR Engineering Pty Ltd, Tieman Tankers, Towers Group Pty Ltd and Uniform Safety Signs Pty Ltd.
Victoria’s defence sector contributes up to $8 billion to the state’s economy every year and includes more than 400 businesses – employing around 20,000 people.
