The Andrews Labor Government is building new infrastructure and improving open spaces in Melton to help families connect, exercise and play.
The Minister for Local Government Marlene Kairouz today opened the $2.57 million stage 2 extension of the Burnside Children’s and Community Centre – making it the largest community meeting space in Melton East.
The completed works include a new 550 square metre multipurpose community space including 360 square metres of partitionable activity rooms and ancillary spaces for public bathrooms, kitchen and storage.
The extension was delivered by Melton City Council in partnership with the Labor Government to expand access to a variety of community groups, making it a vibrant and diverse community hub.
The completion of this project has enabled Melton City Council to address the significant gap in community infrastructure and community space in the growing areas of Burnside and Burnside Heights.
The Minister also visited Hillside to officially open the Allenby Road Reserve Upgrade, a new development which has converted a 7,000 square metre undeveloped parcel of land into much needed open space.
The $600,000 Allenby Road Reserve Upgrade was a joint project between the Labor Government and Melton City Council that commenced in April 2018.
The project has delivered social recreational facilities, including the construction of new footpath links for greater community access, a shelter, seating amenities, new playground space, exercise equipment and landscaping.
These projects are some of the 116 projects that Labor has funded through the Growing Suburbs Fund.
The City of Melton has been awarded almost $19 million over the last three years to help deliver 17 vital community projects for the municipality.
The Labor Government has provided $200 million through the Growing Suburbs fund to improve local infrastructure like family, community and town centres, and deliver civic and open space revitalisation projects.
These projects improve the amenity, liveability and resilience of local communities, and support local jobs.
