The Andrews Labor Government will kick in $100,000 towards the development of a netball court and redevelopment of the pavilion at Barrack Reserve for the Heathcote Football Netball Club and local community groups.
Minister for Sport, John Eren, today announced that Barrack Reserve would share in $2.1 million from the latest round of the Labor Government’s Country Football and Netball Program.
Through the program, the Government has teamed up with the Australian Football League, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to help regional and outer-metro clubs build new, replace or redevelop out-dated facilities.
The funding will enable works to get underway on the $2.7 million development of a new netball court with lighting and redevelopment of the Barrack Reserve Community Pavilion Project, transforming the reserve’s old and cramped pavilion into a modern and spacious ‘hub’ for local community groups and grassroots sport.
Netballers are set to be the big winners with the construction of an outdoor netball court and lighting, giving teams who were sharing the tennis courts the safer and dedicated netball court they need.
The project will ensure the Heathcote Football Netball Club and the Heathcote Junior Football Netball Club can grow into the future and welcome even more members.
The Barrack Reserve Community Pavilion Project is being delivered in partnership with $2.42 million from the City of Greater Bendigo, $150,000 from the Heathcote District Community Bank and $30,000 from the community.
The Victorian Budget 2016/17 kicked in a further $8 million over four years to continue the popular program and work in partnership with AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria who will be providing a combined $1 million towards the program.
