Schools in the Central Goldfields will receive a big boost with more support announced for students studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and music, as well as important upgrades for school infrastructure.
At an event at Maryborough Education Centre, Minister for Education James Merlino announced that the school is one of 30 across the state that will benefit from the Secondary STEM Catalysts program.
This initiative will see 60 teachers at 30 schools across Victoria trained to lead, encourage and mentor other teachers in high impact STEM education for Years 7 and 8 students.
Mr Merlino also announced that the Centre and Timor Primary School, which he also visited, were among 43 schools to receive $5000 grants as part of the Music in School program.
The Music in Schools program provides professional training for hundreds of Victorian teachers so schools can establish quality music programs. The second round of grants will be available in 2017.
At Timor Primary School, Mr Merlino officially announced the school had received $90,000 as part of the School Pride Fund in the Victorian Budget 2016/17, which invested a record $1.1 billion in school infrastructure.
The Andrews Labor Government has made significant investments in the Maryborough Education Precinct which received $250,000 last year to complete landscaping work.
It also received a funding boost earlier this year when it received $2,043,616 in equity funding, a boost of $987,149 compared to last year. Timor Primary School received $108,687, an increase of $62,611 from 2015.
