Bendigo Stadium On Track To Deliver The Big Events

01 June 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with the multi-million dollar upgrade at Bendigo Stadium – the precinct’s flagship venue for national and international indoor sports.

Minister for Sport John Eren today inspected the progress of works made possible by a $5 million in funding from the Andrews Labor Government.

Stage One of the development is now almost complete with the 12 new outdoor netball courts supporting Golden City Netball Association’s growing numbers.

The ageing Bendigo Stadium is being upgraded to incorporate three new sports courts, helping to increase the stadium’s capacity to 4,000 spectators.

Bendigo boasts an impressive list of events including Bendigo Spirit WNBL matches, the recent Australian Snooker Goldfields Open and this weekend’s FIVB Women’s International Volleyball World Grand Prix further enhancing the venue’s booming reputation.

The Labor Government has secured an additional $80 million for Victoria’s events war chest, helping regional centres like Bendigo snare even more major events and further growing our state’s $21 billion tourism and events industry.

The Victorian Budget 2016/17 provided a $60 million boost for projects to strengthen our reputation as the nation’s sporting capital including the construction of new facilities alongside upgrades across the state.

This includes a further $8 million over four years to continue the popular Country Football and Netball Program, as well as $22 million for a new initiative to build and upgrade indoor sports stadiums.
