Bembit Bag-Rook Centre A New Community Hub For Tarneit

05 October 2022

A new community hub will be well positioned to provide critical services to Tarneit’s growing community thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne joined Member for Tarneit Sarah Connolly to officially open the new Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre, backed by Labor Government investments worth $5 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund and Building Blocks Grants program.

The new $20.9 million Centre includes a family area with early learning facilities and consulting suites, as well as an outdoor barbeque area, basketball and netball courts and a playground.

The Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation worked with Wyndham City Council to name the Centre – in the Bunurong language Bembit” means flower and Bag-rook” means women.

Through the Growing Suburbs Fund the Government continues to invest in critical infrastructure projects in the Wyndham area, recently announcing support for a redevelopment of the Galvin Park Football Cricket Community Pavilion and a new family recreation space at Alfred Road Reserve.

Since 2015, the Government has invested $425 million in local infrastructure in Melbourne’s growing suburbs, including $45 million towards 30 projects with Wyndham City Council.
