Ballarat Comments On Station Precinct Redevelopment

07 December 2015

The Andrews Labor Government, in partnership with the City of Ballarat, hosted a community information session for the $25 million Ballarat Station precinct redevelopment project in Ballarat this afternoon.

The project delivery team spoke to members of the public on the progress that has been made on the project since it was identified as a key priority for the region during the Master-planning process in 2013-2014.

The community information session marks an important step forward for the project, following the launch of Expressions of Interest (EOI) last month, which invited interested parties to put forward their vision for the Station Precinct.

The project will deliver a 4 star hotel and convention centre with supporting transport infrastructure and public spaces, while optimising a remediated and refurbished Goods Shed.

The new hotel and convention centre will include over 100 hotel rooms, flexible spaces suitable for conferences and corporate events, and quality retail and dining areas.

The project will transform the precinct into a vibrant, connected and accessible commercial and community hub, whilst protecting and enhancing the precinct’s historical and heritage significance.

Overall, the project is estimated to be worth more than $50 million and is expected to create around 140 local jobs and generate up to $30 million in further private sector investment.

The Government has invested $500 million through the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, which supports major projects, job creation and building stronger regional communities.

The project is being delivered by Regional Development Victoria (RDV) in partnership with VicTrack, City of Ballarat and the Transport division of the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources.

Interested parties can email ballarat.hotel@biruu.com to register their interest and receive the relevant documentation. The EOI closes on 17 December 2015. Following assessment of the EOI submissions, a more detailed Request for Proposals phase will begin with shortlisted parties in early-mid 2016.
