Backing Geelong’s High Tech Future

08 December 2016

Global tech company Tribal Group has announced a $1.17 million investment to establish its Asia Pacific headquarters in Geelong, which will boost the region’s tech sector and create 50 new jobs.

The UK-based global tech company provides world-class solutions for the education sector including tools to better assess students’ progress and systems to help education providers expand their learning audiences.

With offices already operating in Sydney, Melbourne, Wellington, Kuala Lumpur and the Philippines, the decision to base its Asia Pacific headquarters in Geelong is a massive coup for regional Victoria.

The project will also secure a $25 million development program to build a new cloud-hosted IT platform, which will be located in the same precinct as Tribal’s new headquarters.

The precinct will include Runway Geelong, a local accelerator program for startups. The Labor Government is supporting Runway Geelong to establish a major startup hub in the region with $1.25 million funding over four years through LaunchVic, the state’s $60 million startup initiative.

Runway Geelong will act as a catalyst for innovation in the region, helping to stimulate new business growth and create jobs through mentoring, training and improving access to venture capital networks.

The two projects will further the Labor Government’s ambitions to make Geelong a global centre for high tech innovation and entrepreneurship.

In 2015-16 alone, 14 projects across the Greater Geelong region generated $118.3 million worth of investment and 200 full-time jobs.
