Attracting The World’s Best To Create More Local Jobs

23 April 2017

Victoria will attract more of the world’s biggest companies and fastest-growing industries to create local jobs and investment in our state.

Visiting Rinnai Australia’s new Braeside manufacturing hub, Premier Daniel Andrews, and Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan announced an expanded Investment Attraction and Assistance Program to secure more global business.

As part of the Victorian Budget 2017/18, a $90 million funding boost will help create and retain jobs in priority industries like manufacturing and aviation.

This cash injection will target the best investors and innovators around the world and bring them to Victoria, building on a massive $116 million announced in the Victorian Budget 2016/17.

The fund has already assisted Rinnai in establishing its new manufacturing facility and R&D Centre – officially opened today – creating an additional 160 new manufacturing jobs in Melbourne’s south east, including opportunities for ex-automotive workers.

The Andrews Labor Government has also attracted other global names including Square, Slack, GoPro, and Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba to set up their regional headquarters right here in Melbourne, bringing thousands of jobs to Victoria.

Rinnai Australia’s new Braeside facility will produce electronic gas and electric hot water systems, ducted gas, air-conditioning and solar renewable systems. The company’s new R&D ‘Centre of Excellence’ will develop and test products for Rinnai subsidiaries globally.

The major investment from Rinnai also secures the jobs of the company’s existing 372-strong Victorian workforce.

The Labor Government will always support local jobs and industries – that means creating and protecting jobs, driving innovation and supporting economic growth.
