Nominations for the 2016 Victorian Learn Local Awards are now open – celebrating the contribution more than 300 Learn Local organisations make to training across Victoria.
Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert today encouraged inspirational pre-accredited learners and outstanding practitioners from across the state to apply.
The awards are an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the Learn Local sector and are held annually by the Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board.
Learn Locals offer pre-accredited and accredited training with courses in everything from literacy and numeracy to communication and job search skills and play an important role in supporting everyday Victorians.
This year there are five categories at the Learn Local Awards including pre-accredited learner and outstanding practitioner, outstanding pathways program, excellence in creating local solutions and for diversity innovation.
In total, there is $50,000 to be won across the five categories.
Last year’s winners included pre-accredited learner Karen Hokai who, until a few years ago, was trapped in her own home, suffering panic attacks and depression.
Karen enrolled in a gardening course at East End Community House in Mildura and is now an inspiration to people around her, particularly the Polynesian community. Karen is studying at TAFE, assists with the gardening program and runs the garden at East End Community House.
