A major Docklands development that will create jobs and make the precinct a world-class place to live, work and raise a family is about to begin.
Minister for Planning Richard Wynne today turned the first sod of construction to mark the start of works on the $67 million fresh food precinct, The Market, at The District Docklands.
The 9,500 square metre precinct will feature a Woolworths supermarket for the nearly 11,000 Victorians who call Docklands home, as well as 25 fresh food and dining specialties.
The project is the next phase of an exciting transformation of the Docklands precinct, with The District Docklands already building a cutting-edge entertainment hub complete with a HOYTS cinema and other entertainment and restaurant options.
The major projects are set to create up to 2,000 jobs during construction and 600 jobs at The District Docklands once complete.
The Docklands’ population is expected to top 20,000 by 2025, so we’re ensuring locals have a world-class neighbourhood where they can access the services and infrastructure they need on their doorstep.
This development is in line with the Andrews Labor Government’s revamped Plan Melbourne 2017-2050, which is aimed at driving down congestion and ensuring people spend less time commuting and more time doing the things they enjoy.
The entertainment precinct is set to open in September, and the market will open in 2019.
