$5 Million Upgrade For Wallan Secondary College

20 May 2015

The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading Wallan Secondary College to give local students a better start in the fast-growing outer north.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Education, James Merlino, today joined Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green, to visit the school and officially announce the upgrade.

The 2015-16 Victorian Budget provides $5 million to complete the Stage 4 upgrade, which includes new classrooms and better amenities.

The school was established and built by the former Labor Government in 2006.

The 2015-16 Budget invests close to $4 billion in Victoria’s education system – the single biggest boost to education funding in Victoria’s history.

It provides $325 million to renovate, refurbish or rebuild 67 schools, 25 of them in our fast-growing outer suburbs and 21 in regional Victoria.

Quotes attributable to the Premier Daniel Andrews

“Kids in our fast-growing outer suburbs can’t get a complete education in an incomplete school. They deserve more space to learn and more opportunities to thrive.”

Quotes attributable to the Minister for Education, James Merlino

“This is a proud local school but it’s under a lot of pressure. The Liberals failed to finish the job and give Wallan’s students and teachers the facilities they need.”

Quotes attributable to the Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green

“Locals have campaigned hard for this upgrade and I’m so proud the Labor Government is making it happen.”
