$10 Million Redevelopment Of The Gordon Geelong

03 June 2016

The Andrews Labor Government is giving the Gordon another boost with a $10 million redevelopment of the institute’s city campus.

The City Campus Rejuvenation Project will include a new library and student hub at the corner of Little Malop Street and La Trobe Terrace, and an upgrade to the Gordon’s building on the corner of Latrobe Terrace and Gordon Avenue.

Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert this morning visited the Gordon to announce the funding, with $5 million coming from the Government’s $320 million TAFE Rescue Fund and $5 million from The Gordon.

It will enable the Gordon to update facilities and add new equipment, particularly workplace simulation laboratories, which are important for giving students work-ready skills.

The building at the corner of Little Malop Street and La Trobe Terrace will also be home to Geelong’s new state-of-the-art Tech School, one of ten being built across the state as part of the Government’s $125 million Tech School initiative.

The school will be an innovative shared STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) learning centre for secondary school students in the area, with strong industry links.

The Labor Government is transforming training in Victoria with strong and sustainable TAFEs at the heart of the system.

Since November 2014, as well as the TAFE Rescue Fund, the Government has committed $50 million to the TAFE Back to Work Fund and $16 million to opening Skills and Jobs Centres at TAFEs across the state.
