Seedlings Grow At New Community Garden In Sale

Budding gardeners will be able to enjoy a new community space in Gippsland, backed by funding from the Andrews Labor Government.

Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green announced the Seed Community Garden in Sale has officially opened, with the local Rotary Club receiving $149,792 from the Labor Government’s Community and Facility Fund.

Seed Community Garden is centrally located, close to the Sale Botanic Gardens, Lake Guthridge and Sale Tennis Centre. It aims to improve local health and wellbeing for the community, as well as attract people to the town for both social and economic benefits.

The extensive project included earthworks, plumbing and electrical works, installing a water tank and irrigation system, planter boxes, arbours and seating, fencing, glass houses and accessible pathways. It also incorporated a fit out of shipping containers to provide a social gathering space, office and storage facilities.

Seed is already bringing people together to connect, learn and share, including regular events such as ‘Seed Saturdays’ which feature seedling and produce sales, working bees and social gatherings.

In addition to this, the food grown by the Seed Garden will be used by the local ‘Monday Night Tucker’ – a group providing free meals to those who need them in the Wellington Shire and surrounding communities.

The Labor Government has supported 232 community projects across the Latrobe Valley region through the Latrobe Valley Authority’s Community and Facility Fund.
