Safety Boost For Woodvale Locals

23 October 2017

The Andrews Labor Government is improving safety for Woodvale motorists and passengers with the Rileys Road level crossing upgrade now complete.

V/Line crews have installed boom gates, bells, flashing lights and axle counters at the crossing and completed testing to ensure the new equipment is operating safely.

The added features will improve warning for motorists and passengers approaching the railway line by enhancing train detection at the level crossing.

The upgrade works involved crews connecting electrical power at the crossing, completing engineering and signaling works and installing level crossing equipment before being tested and commissioned.

This upgrade at Rileys Road is part of the Labor Government’s $50 million Safer Country Crossings program, which has been fast tracked for completion in 2018. The program had been due to be completed by mid-2019.

This is the 28th level crossing to be upgraded under this program, which will boost safety at 52 road crossings when it’s complete.

The program will also upgrade 25 pedestrian crossings around Victoria, seven of which have already been upgraded.
