Forty-five of northern Victoria’s highest-risk intersections will be made safer as part of the first of round of a state-wide blitz targeting rural and regional Victoria’s most dangerous intersections thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Roads and Minister for Road Safety and the TAC Jaala Pulford announced that intersections will be improved across the Benalla, Campaspe, Greater Shepparton, Mitchell and Moira shires in the coming months.
The intersections will receive a combination of safety improvements including upgraded advanced warning signs, new guide posts, updated linemarking and new hazard markers.
The upgrades are being rolled out under the first round of the Labor Government’s $25 million investment that will see more than 200 high-risk rural intersections made safer.
Intersections have been selected based on safety record, difficulty caused by the intersection’s geometry and community feedback.
The package is part of the $1.4 billion Towards Zero Action Plan that is being delivered in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and VicRoads.
The Towards Zero Action Plan aims to reduce the number of lives lost on our roads and decrease serious injuries by 15 per cent by 2020.
The intersection upgrades taking place across the state will be delivered in two stages from now until mid-2020.
