Bridgewater is set to be revitalised with a foreshore redevelopment project to support local tourism and better connect the town's most picturesque natural asset, the historic Loddon River, to the main street.

The Bridgewater-on-Loddon River Precinct Upgrade will bolster safety and amenity between the main street and the river, encouraging residents and visitors alike to make better use of local businesses and services – as well as the river as a recreational venue.

While in the region today, Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford announced the Andrews Labor Government’s $300,000 investment towards the $400,000 upgrade, which will include:

  • Boardwalk and viewing platforms to support recreational activity and commercial operations
  • Deck access and observation posts to encourage spectator viewing during water sport events
  • Safe boating access to facilitate a range of boating activities
  • Improvements to the connections between the foreshore and main street

Investment in the upgrade is a key step to improving the town for residents, and is set to support five local jobs during construction and create a further six new jobs upon completion.

It will also drive economic growth by encouraging more visitors to stop, stay and play in the area while they enjoy the unique beauty of the Loddon River and make the most of its potential as a venue for water sport activities.

With the support of the Labor Government, the project will be delivered by the Loddon Shire Council in close consultation with the local community and land management stakeholders.

The Government is investing in the project through its $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund which supports projects that drive economic growth, generate jobs, and make regional Victoria an even better place to live, work and visit.
