Reaping The Benefits Of 99 Men’s Sheds

30 August 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is creating more positive, safe and practical spaces for men to work together and contribute to their local community.

Minister for Families and Children Jenny Mikakos visited the Pines Men’s Shed in Frankston today to announce it was one of 29 sheds to share in $903,000 as part of the 2018-19 Men’s Sheds funding round.

The Pines Men’s Shed will receive $30,000 to upgrade its heating and cooling equipment, making it an even better place to meet and work on projects that benefit the local community.

It is one of 20 sheds to receive funding for a refurbishment this year, along with nine brand sheds to be built in Rutherglen, Rowville, Penshurst, Trentham, Leongatha, Mount Martha, Mildura, Heathcote and Linton.

The Labor Government is a proud supporter of men’s sheds and the important role they play in bringing communities together. Since November 2014, the Labor Government has built or upgraded 99 sheds across Victoria.

An additional $116,000 has been provided to the Victorian Men’s Shed Association to help lead the sector and promote growth within the Victorian network.

Men’s sheds improve the health and wellbeing of participants by promoting social inclusion and providing a place for locals to meet, make social connections and actively participate in their local communities.

There are more than 1,000 sheds across the country, with more than 360 in Victoria.

Additional funding of $150,000 was recently announced to continue the support of a dedicated Victorian Men’s Shed Association Field Officer, who is responsible for improving the sustainability and governance of the state’s men’s shed network.
