Plans Underway To Upgrade Boat Ramps Near Mildura

14 June 2022

Fishers and boaters will soon find it easier to get out on the water, with plans now underway to upgrade two boat ramps on the Murray River near Mildura.

Minister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne said the plans are being drawn up to improve the boat ramps at Horseshoe Bend near Red Cliffs and at nearby Karadoc, as part of the $33 million Better Boating Fund.

Improving the boat ramps has been identified as a main priority for the area and follows community consultation, which took place last year.

South of Mildura near Red Cliffs, the boat ramp at Horseshoe Bend provides access to the Murray River for a variety of boaters including fishers, skiers and families towing a donut or biscuit.

Plans include reconstructing the single lane concrete ramp, creating better access for vehicles to the top of the ramp, formalising trailer parking and improving drainage to prevent erosion and the development of ruts in access roads.

The single-lane gravel Karadoc ramp, off Edeys Road, is also a popular spot for fishers chasing a Murray cod or golden perch. Plans include improvements to the facility and formalisation of parking.

Better Boating Victoria (BBV) will work with local engineers to undertake detailed condition assessments of the existing facilities and develop concept plans for the upgrades.

Locals will be able to have their say on the plans for the boat ramp upgrades once complete later this year.
