Piccaninny Walk Upgrades Complete For Grampian Peaks Trail

16 August 2016

Another section of the Grampians Peaks Trail is open for walkers who can now take in the view overlooking Dunkeld, Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt.

Significant upgrades to sections of Piccaninny Walk have been completed this week, including more than a kilometre of track improvements and a sixty-six metre long feature of hand built stone steps.

The popular walking track had been closed since April while the works were underway, which included shifting stones from nearby the track and carefully piecing them together to form steps.

The upgraded sections of the existing Piccaninny Walk will be part of the overall Grampians Peaks Trail, through the southern section of the journey.

Improving tracks encourages walkers to stick to the designated path which allows native flora and fauna to continue to thrive.

When complete, The Grampians Peaks Trail will be a world-class long distance walking experience of 13 days and 12 nights, which will showcase the beauty and majesty of the Grampians National Park’s natural and cultural landscapes.

It will be able to be experienced in sections, as the visitor’s time and resources allow, or as one major journey.
