Oberon South Primary School Students To Enjoy New School Facilities From Term 1, 2021

01 August 2019

Geelong students will soon be learning in new classrooms and a better building as a great local primary school moves to a new home, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Geelong Chris Couzens today visited Oberon South Primary School to announce that from Term 1, 2021, its students will be learning in a $4.59 million building as part of the move, giving students new first-class education facilities.

In 2021, the students and staff of Oberon South Primary School will move into a new building at the neighbouring Oberon High School campus at Kidman Avenue, Belmont. Oberon High School will also operate from the new Armstrong Creek site at the beginning of 2021.

The new, architecturally-designed modular building for Oberon South Primary School will be constructed in a factory and brought to the new school location over the 2020 school year. This means the students and teachers will get this new building sooner, with minimal disruption to students’ day-to-day education.

With its new home on Kidman Avenue, Oberon South Primary School will be closer to the Belmont Community Kindergarten – making drop-off and pick-up easier for families with children attending at both locations.

The move also presents a great opportunity for the school and kindergarten to cooperate on teaching programs and create a smoother transition for kinder kids heading into Prep.

The Victorian School Building Authority will work with the school to design this new building to develop creative thinking, promote STEM literacy and inspire learning for life.

Oberon South Primary School was allocated $3.39 million in the 2019/20 Victorian Budget, and $1.2 million in the 2018/19 Victorian Budget. These two allocations will be combined to give Oberon South Primary School $4.59 million for the design and construction of its new home at Kidman Avenue.

The Labor Government is delivering on its promise to Oberon South Primary School students to give them the great local school they deserve.

The Victorian Government has invested $5.6 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades and supporting over 7,500 construction jobs for Victorians.
