Nominations To Honour Remarkable Women Now Open

04 April 2022

The Andrews Labor Government is encouraging Victorians to nominate important women in their lives as part of the 2022 Victorian Honour Roll of Women.

Minister for Women Gabrielle Williams today opened nominations for the program, which recognises women who make significant and lasting contributions to the community and forge a brighter path for all Victorians.

Last year’s inductees include founding chair of Women in Mathematics Professor Asha Rao, leading Aboriginal disability cultural trainer and consultant Jody Barney and founder of the Afghan Women’s Organisation Victoria Gulghotai Bezhan.

More than 700 women from diverse backgrounds have been named in the Honour Roll since it began in 2001. Women are now able to self-nominate – resulting in the most nominations ever last year. The five categories are:

  • Trailblazer - an inspiring role model who effectively leads the way for women starting out in a field that is traditionally male-dominated and has significant barriers for women
  • Local champion - a dedicated member of their community who has used their skills and expertise in a voluntary or professional capacity
  • Change agent – a woman who has made an enduring commitment in their field of expertise, interest or endeavour that has brought about significant and lasting change
  • Emerging leader - a young woman redefining leadership in their chosen career, field or passion
  • Leading through disaster – a woman has led their organisation or community in disaster preparedness and response at a grassroots, state or global level

Emerging Leader and Leading through disaster categories were introduced last year will carry over in 2022. This will help recognise young women and their achievements and acknowledge women’s leadership in natural disasters and COVID-19 response and recovery.
