New Volunteer CFA Station For Newborough

04 June 2020

A new CFA volunteer fire station in Newborough will be delivered as part of a plan to upgrade fire services infrastructure around Moe.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville today announced the Victorian Government will invest $2.3 million to build the new station, ensuring volunteers have the facilities they need to keep the community safe.

A new career-only Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) station will also be built for Latrobe West, in addition to the new CFA volunteer station at Newborough, and a new CFA volunteer station at Moe.

The government committed $2.5 million to upgrade and rebuild the Moe CFA station in 2018.

This approach will ensure that new fire services infrastructure can be delivered as quickly as possible, providing a stronger fire and emergency response for the community well into the future.

The government has been working closely with fire agencies and other stakeholders to prepare for the establishment of FRV from 1 July 2020.

FRV will bring together career firefighters from MFB and CFA under one organisation to lead fire services in metropolitan Melbourne and major regional centres.

The reforms also mean CFA will be able to better focus on supporting and growing our vital volunteer firefighters across country Victoria.

Laws passed by the Parliament last year provide presumptive rights to cancer compensation for career and volunteer firefighters that have been denied for far too long.

This recognises the invaluable service they provide which often requires them to work in inherently dangerous conditions.
