Gayle Tierney will join the Cabinet as Minister for Training and Skills, and Minister for Corrections.

Ms Tierney is the current Cabinet Secretary and was elected to Parliament as Member for Western Victoria Region at the 2006 election.

She was the first woman to become a State Secretary of the Vehicle Division of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union. Gayle served in this role from 1993 to 2006, and also as its Federal President from 2000 to 2006.

Since being in Parliament, Ms Tierney has been a champion of our state’s regional communities, ensuring that all Victorians have their voices heard, no matter where they live.

She believes nothing is more important than having access to a good education and opportunities for well-paid fulfilling work.

Ms Tierney looks forward to delivering on the Andrews Labor Government’s agenda to rebuild TAFE and the broader tertiary education sector after four years of neglect by the former Liberal Government.

She will also focus on ensuring that Victoria’s Corrections system protects the community and helps keep our state safe.
