The Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, last night officially opened the new $28 million Vibe Hotel and Conference Centre in Marysville.

The Vibe Marysville features a four star 101-bed hotel, conference centre and associated event and meeting spaces for up to 430 people, various dining options including the Radius Café and the Radius Restaurant, a gym, pool, car park and a spa and wellbeing centre.

Almost all of the 64 staff members who are part of the operations team come from the region and include four new families who have moved to Marysville and three long-term unemployed Marysville residents.

Twenty two food suppliers from the region are supplying the Radius Restaurant.

The Vibe Marysville created up to 85 new full-time jobs during construction, adding an estimated $9 million to the region’s economy. The new facility is expected to add up to $7 million directly to the economy of Marysville every year.

Since opening to visitors in February 2015, about 4,000 guests have stayed at the Vibe Marysville and 1,300 delegates have attended conferences at the facility.

Earlier this year the Vibe Marysville was listed by the “Traveller” as one of the world’s 15 most remarkable hotel openings in 2015, alongside other hotel developments including Dubai’s Palazzo Versace, Venice’s JW Marriot and Beijing’s Sunrise Kempinksi.

The Victorian Government contributed $19 million towards the project, which was identified by the local community and the previous Labor Government as one of eight catalyst projects to assist with Marysville’s economic recovery following the devastation of the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.
