New Manufacturing Facility And Jobs For The South East

18 May 2016

A Seaford based manufacturer will expand its operations and create up to 35 new local jobs in Melbourne’s south east with a grant from the Andrews Labor Government’s $33 million Local Industry Fund for Transition (LIFT).

Minister for Industry Lily D’Ambrosio visited Recyclable Packaging in Seaford today with local Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny to announce $300,000 to give the company the financial boost it needs to establish an additional manufacturing facility.

The funding will help Recyclable Packaging employ ten new workers, with 15 additional roles to be created in other organisations over the next two years, as part of a revamp project worth $1.5 million to the company.

The revamp will also include purchasing new manufacturing machinery that will allow the company to develop a new product range to complement their plastic food packaging products across Australia and New Zealand.

The new jobs that are created will provide opportunities to transition retrenched automotive workers as part of the Labor Government’s $46.5 million Towards Future Industries: Victoria’s Automotive Transition Plan.

The initiative is designed to help businesses, workers and communities affected by the closure of automotive manufacturing operations meet future challenges of reemployment and capitalise on job opportunities.

The grants will be awarded to companies that can generate new investment that results in sustainable jobs and economic benefits for the local economies in Melbourne’s south east, north, west and Geelong regions.

The Automotive Transition Plan also includes the $5 million Automotive Supply Chain Transition Program (ASCTP) to help automotive supply chain companies identify opportunities in new markets.

LIFT is currently open for expressions for interest. For more information about LIFT and ASCTP, visit the Business Victoria website Link
