New Judge Appointed To Supreme Court

22 May 2018

The Andrews Labor Government today announced the appointment of leading commercial barrister Kevin Lyons QC as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Mr Lyons has over two decades of experience as a barrister specialising in contract, negligence, equity and class actions, consumer and commercial criminal law, as well as in building and insurance, and wills and estates.

Mr Lyons has been a member of the Ethics Committee of the Victorian Bar since 2009, and was previously a member of the board of the Victoria Law Foundation, and a member of the Legal Practice Committee of the Legal Services Board.

Mr Lyons was admitted to legal practice in 1990, working first as a solicitor, then senior associate, at Galbally & O’Bryan, and later as an associate to Justice Harper at the Supreme Court.

He signed the Victorian Bar Roll in 1995 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2012.

He has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne.

Mr Lyons will replace Justice Peter Vickery, who is retiring this month after a decade of service as a judge of the Supreme Court.
