New Jobs For Victoria As Global Tech Leader Expands

25 August 2019

One of the world’s leading tech companies is set to reinvest in Victoria, creating more than 70 highly-skilled engineering jobs and making Melbourne home to its largest product innovation team in the Asia-Pacific.

Minister for Jobs, Innovation and Trade Martin Pakula today announced the expansion by global software giant Zendesk at an industry event to discuss opportunities for new tech skills, training and employment in Victoria.

The new jobs will focus on software development in big data, app marketplace design and integration, engineering support and platform design, with employees to work closely with Zendesk’s global team.

The announcement comes on the back of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment in 2015 to support Zendesk in establishing its Asia Pacific Software Engineering Centre in Melbourne.

The new engineering jobs will push Zendesk’s local workforce above 320.

The company’s Australia and New Zealand headquarters in Melbourne is now Zendesk’s largest artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation engineering workforce after San Francisco.

Founded in Copenhagen in 2007, Zendesk is a global software development company operating a cloud-based customer service platform that supports more than 145,000 paid customer accounts in 160 countries.

Zendesk has 16 offices across the world and is among several major tech companies that has chosen to invest in Victoria – others include Square, Slack, Mavenlink and Airwallex.

Victoria’s tech and ICT sector employs more than 137,900 people across more than 19,300 businesses, generating $36.6 billion in annual revenue.
