New Improved Access To Western Freeway Now Complete

30 August 2018

An upgrade improving access to the Western Freeway is now complete, with new entry and exit ramps at Halletts Way to enhance traffic flow and speed up travel times.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the upgrade demonstrated the Australian Government’s strong commitment to improving infrastructure across Victoria and nationwide.

“Around Australia, we are investing in road infrastructure to improve connectivity throughout our regions, and these new ramps will greatly improve local access to a key transport corridor,”
Mr McCormack said.

Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said a new shared pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Western Freeway at Halletts Way will mean safer journeys for cyclists and better active transport links.

“Not only are we improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in the heart of Bacchus Marsh, we’re giving people more options to get around safely – whether it’s by car, bike or foot.”

“The addition of new traffic lights and the east-facing freeway ramps will boost safety at the freeway interchange, making it easier and faster for locals to get where they need to go,” Mr Donnellan said.

Senator for Victoria Jane Hume said the new entry and exit ramps would make a significant difference for locals commuting to Melbourne or Ballarat.

“This upgrade is a win for drivers in this region, who will now reap the benefits of improved traffic flow within Bacchus Marsh and spend less time stuck in traffic,” Senator Hume said.

A new noise wall along the edge of the westbound exit ramp, south of the freeway, is currently underway to reduce noise levels for residents, and this work will have limited impact on the general public.

The $15.2 million project is jointly funded, with the Australian Government committing $12.16 million and the Victorian Government committing $3.04 million.
