New Home For Kalkallo Scouts

01 June 2022

A new Scout hall in Kalkallo will provide a modern home for an emerging local Scout group as the Andrews Labor Government continues to deliver improved scouting facilities across Victoria.

Minister for Youth Ros Spence today turned the first sod at the site of the Kalkallo Scout Hall, which has been supported by a $600,000 contribution from the Labor Government and funding from Scouts Victoria, which will bring the total investment in the project to $1.2 million.

The new Kalkallo Scout Hall will be built on the grounds of Gilgai Plains Primary School and is scheduled to be completed next year.

The funding is part of the Government’s 2018 election commitment of $5.5 million over four years to build and upgrade Scouting infrastructure across Victoria. Funding is matched by Scouts Victoria, bringing the total investment to $11 million.

The announcement of the Kalkallo Scout Hall brings the total number of projects supported through the Labor Government’s election commitment to 23.

Scouts Victoria is one of the state’s largest youth organisations and has a membership base of more than 20,000 young people and 5,000 adult volunteers. The number of young people participating in scouting activities has grown by 30 per cent in the last 10 years.

Scouts Victoria has a rich history of fostering teamwork, care for community and leadership skills among young Victorians.

Access to scouting activities supports young people’s positive development and growth by creating opportunities for them to lead by example in their communities.
