New Home For Ballarat Buses On Track

12 June 2018

The Andrews Labor Government is a step closer to delivering a better home for Ballarat buses, releasing the design of the new bus interchange at Ballarat Station.

Minister for Public Transport Jacinta Allan today unveiled the design for the interchange which will bring local buses closer to the station, make it easier for passengers to access the precinct and make it safer to change between transport services.

The project will take buses off local streets with 12 new bus bays within the Ballarat Station precinct, while improving comfort and safety for passengers with pedestrian crossings, CCTV, lighting, shelters and seating.

The reference design is the result of extensive consultation with expert engineers and architects, transport stakeholders and most importantly, the Ballarat community. In response to community feedback, an additional pedestrian crossing has been added to improve connection to the station building, and the shelters now include wind breakers to better protect passengers from weather.

New signage and landscaping works will also help people get where they need to go around the precinct. The reference design will be used to gain heritage and planning approvals, ensuring the design complements the unique heritage values of the station building.

The Labor Government is getting on with delivering a major transport program for Ballarat including $32 million for the Ballarat Station Precinct Redevelopment, investing in new bus shelters across Ballarat and planning to upgrade Wendouree Station.

Ballarat passengers will also benefit from the $557 million Ballarat Line Upgrade, which will deliver more frequent and reliable services for Ballarat and Melbourne’s growing west.
