New On-Course Stables Delivered For Benalla Racing Club

19 July 2023

Horses and trainers at Benalla Racing Club now have access to new on-course stabling, thanks to a funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines visited the racing club today to announce the opening of the stable complex and associated works, supported by more than $239,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund (VRIF). The club contributed more than $299,000 and Racing Victoria more than $59,000.

The new stable complex can accommodate 20 horses and includes an undercover horse walking area, new perimeter fencing and facilities for training staff.

The new stables benefit local trainers and improve the safety and welfare of horses as they no longer have to be transported to and from the track each day for training.

The rent from the stables will also increase revenue opportunities for the racing club, generating additional income and providing greater financial security.

Since December 2014 the Labor Government has invested more than $1.5 million to support racing and infrastructure projects at Benalla Racing Club.

The thoroughbred racing industry in regional Victoria generates $711 million for the Victorian economy every year and helps sustain almost 5,600 jobs.
